Meet our Veterinarian

Alfred J. Mina, DVM – Owner

Dr. Alfred J. Mina was born in Lihue, Kauai and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. After graduating from Hilo High School, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology at the University of Hawaii – Hilo. In 2000, Dr. Mina graduated with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Washing State University – College of Veterinary Medicine before heading home to Hilo, Hawaii where he’s been practicing small animal, exotics, avian, and emergency medicine since he graduated.

Dr. Mina’s special areas of interest are emergency medicine, avian and exotic animal medicine, and orthopedic surgery. Although his patients are usually dogs and cats, he also provides medical care for the injured endangered birds and birds of prey of Hawaii.

When Dr. Mina is out of the office, he enjoys spending his free time doing animal paintings with acrylics and soft pastels, hiking alone or with friends, and caring for his own animals.

Phyllis Hoomanawanui – Practice Manager

Phyllis was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and raised on the Big Island. Waiakea High and UH- Hilo graduate.  Enjoys beading, sewing and playing with her grandchildren, cats and puppy.

Tia – Registered Veterinary Technician

Tia is a Hilo native who enjoys photography.
